The irresistible charm of tango
Yearning to unveil the myth of tango and to gain and enjoy the experience of recording with today’s’ talented musicians of Buenos Aires, Michael Ashjian, the Lebanese-Armenian pianist and composer, decides to record his own tango compositions in the capital of tango !
Educated as a classical musician and graduated from The Komitas State Conservatory in Yerevan- Republic of Armenia, but being raised by traditional jazz and the famous dance tunes of early and mid twentieth century, by his music and dance enthusiast father; also having fallen under the spell of Astor Piazzolla’s music and the charisma of the Argentinean colors and rhythms, Michael finds himself withdrawing from the classical repertoire and expressing in the Argentinean tango style. In 2009 he gives his first concert as a tango composer in Beirut and in 2010, under the patronage of The Argentinean Embassy in Lebanon, he organizes a “Live Tango Concert-Show” at UNESCO Palace, performed along with his dear colleagues from The Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Music and Lebanese talented tango dancers.
In his word to his dear Lebanese public, Michael confesses his love for tango: “At first I wanted to dance, then I found myself composing, but now it’s an attitude towards life: You can’t stop, you have to move forward and in all directions, until you find the means for self expression and self fulfillment .”
